Every Houston Picks list, whether it covers barbecue, vets or accountants, comes down to three things. First, focus. An AC repair company is not the same as an HVAC installer, and a general dentist is not an orthodontist, so the businesses that do exactly what you need go ahead of the generalists.

Second, reputation over the long haul. We look at what customers have said publicly about each business across the years, which anyone with a phone can check, and we set its rating against the depth of that record. Third, what the business says on its own website and channels about its services, how it works and the parts of the metro it covers, from the Heights to Alief.

Those signals produce a ranking set on merit, which we come back to regularly. Corrections can go through the contact page at any time. Inclusion is never sold, and payment does not change our criteria. Businesses already selected may buy profile upgrades or a featured spot, always labeled.
